When I started At Kaufman Broadcast everyone was making the transition to HD Video, and one of the everyday issues we would have is that the high bandwidth of HD video would only go so far on a coax cable. Some camera shoots would have the camera very far from the Satellite uplink truck, and Fiber was the only way to send it that far.
AFP made some great fiber media converters, buy they required an AC power source, and sometimes the camera was in the middle of nowhere running on batteries. I came up with these cases that we could hand to a camera guy and he would have no problem setting up. I even made them waterproof, so they could be thrown on the ground and not worried about. Using the same kind of batteries used in most field audio mixers it would run for over 12 hours.
