About Us
Niels was born in Austin Texas and quickly transplanted to the frozen north.
Madeline, on the other hand, was born on the warmest January 21st in St. Louis history!
They both spent their childhood days playing with cats and nights watching Star Trek.
Madeline's childhood may have consisted of a little more TV and sugar, while Niels spent more time reading and doing chores...
In High School, both Madeline and Niels dedicated their time to singing, performing in theatre productions and choir.
Though hundreds of miles apart, they were already meant for each other. ♡
In 2003, Niels began his studies at Northwestern University, and Madeline arrived on campus a year later. Those of you familiar with NU campus life will understand why Madeline's classes in music, literature, and psychology, and Niels classes and labs in engineering and science, pretty much ensured that the two would never meet.
However, destiny transcends North and South campus divisions...
Her Junior year, Madeline studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, a country she knew nothing about but quickly fell in love with.
Upon returning in Spring of 2007, Northwestern housing placed Madeline in a dorm on the far end of North campus, a part of Northwestern that she hadn't visited since freshman orientation! Her new roommates turned out to be a perfect match (who knew residential services was so good?!) Among her new friends was a quiet boy whose family was from Copenhagen. They talked about Denmark for a few minutes upon their first meeting and then spoke a second time a few months later... Little did Madeline know that this quiet "Danish" boy across the hall "liked" her and would turn out to be the love of her life.
Luckily, Niels' friends (and Madeline's new roommates) decided to play cupid and pushed Madeline to give Niels a chance. With some effort, Madeline was able to get Niels to begin talking to her and he finally asked her out during a group trip to Disney World.
While the rest of the group saw "Die Hard 4," Niels and Madeline shared popcorn while enjoying the romantic fantasy film "Stardust". A few months, many phone calls and a few dates later, Madeline forced Niels to kiss her and the rest is history.
Today, almost 7 years after their first date, Madeline and Niels live in St. Louis where Niels works as a broadcast engineer and Madeline is a librarian and singer. Niels enjoys spending his free time at Arch Reactor, St. Louis' premiere hacker space, where he serves as Sargeant of Arms. Madeline sings with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, is a member of the Ladie's Friday Musical Club and is serving as Chairperson of the 2014 Greater St. Louis Book Fair. Their hobbies include vegetarian and seasonal cooking, biking, yoga, reading, Netflix marathons of old TV shows, and snuggling with their cats.
